ASUU: Strike To Continue In spite Of Monday Ultimatum

It was dubious on Saturday whether the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities would cancel its five-month-old strike, regardless of the Federal Government's Monday final proposal.

The Chairman, ASUU, University of Benin, Dr. Tony Monye-Emina said, "The strike has not been canceled.

Likewise, ASUU in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State, promised not to comply with government's request that instructors ought to profit to classroom for Monday.

The Chairman, ASUU, OOU part, Dr. Nasir Adesola said the teachers would not succumb to dangers by government to sack them. He said it was talk that the union would call of the strike. He expressed that the National Executive Council of ASUU would meet and concur before the strike could be canceled.

Same with ASUU in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where the Chairman, Dr. Ifeanyi Abada, said just the ASUU NEC could advertise the suspension of the strike.

The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan had on Friday, in light of the mandates of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities and the National Universities Commission, said the foundation would be re-opened on January 4, 2014.

In the authority release of the college, which was marked by its Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr. Olujimi Olukoya, the chamber clarified that the re-opening got essential in perspective of the thought of all matters identifying with the on-going ASUU strike, at its late gathering.
