Man United forward Robin van Persie has not travelled for Champions League fixture, while Nemanja Vidic has also been left at home
.
The striker will miss their Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen after failing to overcome a persistent groin injury.
Van persie who missed training at United’s Carrington base this morning and was not included in the travelling squad by manager David Moyes for this afternoon’s flight to Germany from Manchester Airport.
Defences duo Phil Jones and Rafael both of whom have been sidelined due to injury recently – were able to train on Tuesday to boost their prospects of facing Leverkusen in the BayArena on Wednesday, but Nemanja Vidic has also not travelled.
Van Persie, who also missed Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Cardiff, is now battling to be fit for Sunday’s Premier Leaguetrip to Tottenham after staying behind in Manchester.
Van Persie’s absence is likely to leave Moyes without the option of playing Wayne Rooney midfield against the German team.
With Michael Carrick injured and Marouane Fellaini ruled out due to suspension, the prospect of Rooney playing in a deeper role had been mooted.
However, Tom Cleverley is likely to partner Ryan Giggs in midfield, with Rooney playing as centre-forward in the absence of Van Persie.
Meanwhile, former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to attend his first Champions League away fixture since retiring, with the Scot due to be in attendance at the BayArena tomorrow.
