BT Sport has agreed to pay almost £900 million for exclusive UK live broadcast rights for all Champions League and Europa League matches for three seasons from 2015/16.

The telecoms company knocked out both BSkyB and ITV, the current holders of the rights, during bidding this week. It is the first time a single UK broadcaster has won the exclusive live rights to all 350 matches from both Uefa tournaments.

The deal to sell the entire rights package to BT could raise the prospect of Champions League football disappearing from free-to-air television for the first time in Britain.
